A southwest Georgia librarian has been named the new director of East Central Regional Library.

Teresa Cole, who most recently served as director of Dougherty County Library in Albany, began work last week, according to Sherryl James, community service and outreach librarian in Augusta.

The headquarters library, 823 Telfair St., will host a reception for the public to welcome Cole from 1:30 to 4 p.m. May 18, James said.

Cole takes over for longtime director Gary Swint, who retired in March.

Library Board of Trustees President Jane Howington appointed B.J. Lester to head the search committee that selected Cole. The committee picked Cole over finalist Diana Shousen Remington, director of Summit County Library in Utah.

East Central Georgia Regional Library has 15 libraries in five counties and serves a population of more than 300,000.
