EASLEY, S.C. - A State Law Enforcement Division agent has been involved in a fatal wreck in Pickens County.

Authorities say 47-year-old SLED agent Justin Cheeks was driving a state-owned car Sunday afternoon when he was hit head-on by a car driven by 61-year-old James Rhodes on state Highway 183 near Easley.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley says Rhodes was not wearing a seat belt and died a short time later at the hospital.

Troopers say Cheeks also was taken to the hospital and his condition was not immediately available.

The Highway Patrol is reconstructing the crash and no charges have been filed.
