JACKSON, Ga. – Authorities say a man has been charged with the stabbing deaths his wife and her 10-year-old daughter.
Butts County Sheriff Gene Pope says Herman Leonard Jackson III is being held in the Butts County jail after surrendering Sunday. Police say Jackson killed his wife, Penny Phillips, and the little girl Saturday morning at their home near Jackson.
The woman's son discovered the bodies just after 10 a.m. Saturday. Later that day, police found Jackson's pickup truck in nearby Henry County, where he had abandoned it and fled on foot.
Authorities say Jackson turned himself in at the Henry County jail with the help of his pastor. He was transported to the Butts County jail.
It was not immediately clear whether Jackson had an attorney.
