Deputy Coroner David Burnett listed the cause of death as traumatic brain injury.

Family members had gathered at Medical College of Georgia's Children's Medical Center since the April 12 incident. Doctors told them that bleeding around the boy's brain had subsided, a positive sign, but that the brain activity which specialists continued to look for never emerged.

No charges have been filed, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol has not released any substantial information as it continues with the investigation. Funeral arrangements are pending .

Such a great gift taken so soon, we all grieve for the Family and pray for their strength in this time of need. Carley touched and impressed many lives in what short time he spent in this world, so much so that the many feel privileged to have met him as he made a strong impression on the young and old alike and will never be forgotten. Blessed are our Children, rest in peace this sweet child.

Merriwether Elementary School

Merriwether Elementary School has had two of its students lose their lives in a tragic manner this year. The first one was due to a dog attack and now this. My heart and prayers go out to all the people who have to contend with these losses especially the family and friends.

This is truly a sad day, an angel was taken so soon from this earth. Our prayers go out to his family during this heartbreaking time, just know that you might not be able to see him physically, but he will always be by yourside and the memories in your heart. Carley was so loving and full of life and wise beyond his years. He will be missed so much by his friends and family. We will continue to pray for you all and be by your side.
