Richmond school system continues Masters badge inquiry

  • Follow Latest News

Richmond County School System officials said Wednesday they are continuing an investigation into how Masters Golf Tournament badges donated to local students ended up in the hands of ticket scalpers.

School spokesman Louis Svehla said top administrators are responsible for the investigation but have not announced any findings.

“We still have to get all the parties together and get all that (information), and that’s what they’re trying to do,” Svehla said. “We don’t have anything yet.”
Svehla said he did not know if the Augusta National Golf Club donates badges to schools as a yearly program or if it is an occasional gesture.

A spokesman for the Augusta National said Wednesday he would check into the school badge situation, but did not provide immediate details.

Okay. There is something going on here (a cover-up attempt of some sort), or we are dealing with some incompetence on the part of the investigators. Anybody with even an elementary understanding of effective investigation knows that the LAST thing you want to do is, "get all the parties together." Questioning all of the parties INDIVIDUALLY is how effective, productive investigations are carried out. Also, they should already have at least a rudimentary understanding of who the guilty parties are because the badges are uniquely numbered. The only reason I can think of that they would try to cover this up is that there are some fairly high-ranking BOE officials involved. All of this is pure speculation on my part, of course, but I'd be shocked if I'm wrong about this. Also, don't be surprised if we never get an answer on the supposed, "investigation." the BOE will likely just stall, in the hope that the controversy just blows over. Heck, The Augusta National doesn't really like this kind of publicity either, so, they might not even be forthcoming with information on this matter either. Of course, they are a private club, so they don't have to explain anything they dont want to anyway....

What??? The daggone SPOKESMAN for the BOE doesn't even know this?? This should be about the EASIEST thing to find out because everybody knows how special these badges are and how hard they are to get. Can't believe this guy doesn't know this. Look, this is an easy case, if you ask me. Find out who the tickets were delivered to at the BOE, and asked them what they did with them. From there, it all will unravel. Augusta Chronicle..please do not let go of this story! It definitely smells and shouldn't be swept under the rug. People want to know what happened.

Just, well-stated... This

Just, well-stated... This whole thing stinks more than week old fish on a raccoon's back on an August afternoon. My guess is that the Chronicle will continue to follow-up, but will essentially be stonewalled by not only the BOE and the National. It's a shame too, because I think we have a right to know which government-paid BOE was involved in this if it wasn't a student or student's parent.

Shehla knows more than he is

Shehla knows more than he is telling. Maybe they need to get the tribunal hearing panel to hold court with the employees!
