Aiken traffic stop leads to arrest in Miss. shooting

A woman wanted in connection with the shooting of her husband in Mississippi was arrested early this morning in Aiken on suspicion of driving under influence, according to an Aiken Public Safety news release issued today.

Linda Anne Byrd Smith was stopped on Whiskey Road at Price Avenue about 5 a.m. During the stop, officers discovered she was wanted by the Indianola (Miss.) Police Department on an aggravated domestic violence charge.

Aiken officers additionally charged her with driving under suspension, second offense; illegal transport of liquor; and unlawful carrying of a pistol. She was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center, where she was listed under the name Linda Byrd with an Aiken home address.
