Glenn Hills High wins Ga. problem solving title

A Glenn Hills High School team won the state championship this past weekend in the Future Problem Solving Program, the Richmond County School System announced today.

Students on the winning team are Melissa Bragg, Mike O'Neal, Brandon Mathis and Alex Seguin. They will represent Georgia at the International Competition held in LaCrosse, Wis., on June 9-12, where they will compete against teams from 40 states and 10 countries, including New Zealand, Singapore, Korea, United Kingdom, and Australia.

Additional Richmond County awards went to:

- Butler High School students Travis Moore, Matthew Martinez, Ida Truong and Andrew Schweitzer placed third.

- In the individual competition, Antonio Evans placed second and Joshua Daniels placed third. Both are Glenn Hills students. 

- In the Senior Division of the Scenario Writing competition, Tabatha Bowles (Westside High School) placed third, Jessica Faust (A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet) placed second and Jacquez Smith (Josey High School) placed first. Jacquez will represent Georgia at the International Competition, competing on a team with three international students to create a group scenario.

- Tyler Milks (Westside) placed second in the Middle Division of Scenario Writing.

- Beth Ann Strelec, a Richmond County high school gifted teacher and coach of all of the district's participating students and teams, was named the Georgia Future Problem Solving Program Coach of the Year.
