The National Weather Service said steady winds of about 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will combine with dropping humidity and temperatures in the 80s Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say those conditions mean any fire that starts in woods or grassy areas can spread quickly.
The weather service is asking anyone who wants to burn debris outdoors to wait until conditions improve.
Forecasters also are asking motorists not to flick cigarettes butts out of their windows because those can also start fires.
The wildfire danger will continue Thursday, especially in the coastal areas.
