Authorities said Wednesday that John Russell Carver is charged with rape, armed robbery and aggravated in the attack. Authorities say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation linked Carver to the crime with DNA.
Police say he raped the woman – an employee of the church – before stealing her cell phone. Authorities say he sold the phone hours later at Underground Atlanta in downtown.
Carver is already in the Fulton County jail on unrelated charges. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
