Lindsay Wilson and Russell Stallard cut their wedding cake, a John Deere plowing a field, next to the groom's cake, a can of Bud Light. Their nuptials were filmed for Friday night's season finale of the CMT series "My Big Redneck Wedding."

If you were to call Lindsay Wilson's and Russell Stallard's nuptials a redneck wedding, they would not be offended: The Darien couple planned it that way for the benefit of Friday night's season finale of "My Big Redneck Wedding" at 8:30 on CMT.

The couple's Feb. 26 wedding day was at the end of days of filming in Darien with a crew from Pink Sneakers, the company that produces the show.

"I wore a hot pink dress I wore to the prom," the 23-year-old Wilson said, "but from the chest down, I covered it in camo duct tape."

Stallard wore a ghillie suit, a camouflage hunting outfit with leaves hanging from it. As for the wedding party, it was come as you are. Some wore jeans or overalls, but everyone looked like they could comfortably spend time in a bass boat.

CMT publicist Natasha Powell said the season finale is a big deal. In its fourth season, "My Big Redneck Wedding" had 10 episodes this year with Tom Arnold hosting.

"It's been a popular show. That's why we brought it back," Powell said.

It started when Wilson saw a short invitation to apply on the Internet. They sent in a video but were turned down. Then in February, the show's producers called, said things had fallen through with another couple and asked if they would consider being on the show. But they had to do it almost immediately.

Stallard was reluctant, but Wilson said, "I had to do some sweet-talking to get him to do it."

The entire episode, including a get-acquainted meal at Skippers Fish Camp, took about two weeks with a break for the production crew to leave for another job.

"Hell, it was like we missed them," said Stallard, who sells cars in Brunswick.

The altar was in front of a hunting stand and Wilson rode partway on a shiny John Deere tractor before hopping off and covering the rest on foot.

She works at a title pawn business in Brunswick, but once worked at a John Deere dealership.

"I love John Deeres. My whole house is decorated in John Deere stuff," she said.

After Bubba Strickland pronounced the vows and declared them man and wife, they jumped on the tractor and rode off.

At the reception, guests ate chicken, ribs, baked beans and pickled okra.

Their wedding cake had a John Deere plowing a field while the groom's cake was shaped like a Bud Light can. Wilson won the tobacco-spitting contest when her stream of Red Man juice outdistanced everyone else's.

They also played bug zapper tag using versions shaped like tennis rackets.

"When you touch somebody with one, they get a little shock," Wilson said.

Asked what they thought of the finished product, Stallard said he has no idea.

"We'll see it Friday night the same time everybody else sees it," he said. "Of course, we're nervous as hell."

But theirs will be a little special. Beth Aycock is going to reopen the Cypress Lounge in Darien that night and have a viewing party.

And there will be another wedding in September, their original date, to keep their families happy.

"Bubba won't be doing that one," Stallard said.

Wish my daughter would have

Wish my daughter would have chosen this rather than a "destination wedding" at Hilton Head. She would have a great down payment on her first house with the money that has been spent. And ultimately they still would be married.
