Foreclosure activity in the six-county Augusta metro area increased in February.

RealtyTrac, a company that tracks foreclosures nationwide, said there were 361 foreclosure filings in the area in February, up from 317 in January.

That's a filing for one in every 640 households.

There were 289 bank repossession filings in February 2010.

RealtyTrac said national activity decreased 14 percent.

"Foreclosure activity dropped to a 36-month low in February as allegations of improper foreclosure processing continued to dog the mortgage servicing industry and disrupt court dockets," said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.

Georgia posted the fifth highest state total, tallying 12,807 properties with a foreclosure filing.

"one in every 640

"one in every 640 households"??!!! That's a lot of misery and spells real trouble for our housing market. Not good.

kmb, don't forget. Gas is up, food is up, electricity is up. In fact, gas is up 67% since obama took office.

Everything is up except income & jobs. :(
