Top Georgia court upholds state's voter ID law

ATLANTA — Georgia's top court has upheld a state law that requires voters to show photo identification before they cast ballots.

The Georgia Supreme Court's 6-1 decision today is the latest court ruling to conclude that the rules are constitutional. The decision found the 2006 law was a "minimal, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory restriction."

Georgia attorneys said the measure is needed to prevent voter fraud, but the Democratic Party of Georgia countered that state legislators have no proof anyone tried to illegally cast a ballot.

Critics have also long claimed the law creates an undue burden on the poor, the disabled and minorities.

Photo ID is long overdue. However, it won't stop fraud- phony ID's are easy to get.

I have no problem with showing ID to vote. I think it's great. It has nothing to do with being a repub or democrat.

You need photo ID to rent a

You need photo ID to rent a movie, buy cigarettes, buy booze, get into R rated movies, etc. In Georgia, this law requiring it for voting also provided vans to go around poor neighborhoods, nursing homes, etc. to offer FREE photo IDs to poor people and seniors unable to travel if they did not already have them.
So what is not to like about this law?
And who is the fool on the Georgia Supreme Court who was the "1" in this 6-1 decision??
