A Hephzibah man has been sentenced to 225 months -- more than 18 years -- in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Evidence presented before United States District Court Judge J. Randal Hall showed that Bobby Lee Roberson, 44, was involved in a Feb. 18, 2008, shooting in Martinez’s West Lake neighborhood, according to a news release. He then evaded officers until his arrest on July 27, 2009.

Roberson, who has five previous burglary convictions, was sentenced under the Armed Career Criminal Act, which requires those with at least three previous convictions for violent felonies or serious drug offenses be imprisoned for at least 15 years.

Roberson is also required to serve five years of supervised release following his prison release, the release said.

Great sentence. Mr. Roberson

Great sentence. Mr. Roberson will be older, but probably not wiser, when he is released. Time will tell.

Justice is served. We should

Justice is served. We should be very proud of our justice system. This is a dangerous man who was armed and didn't hesitate to shoot at the homeowner in his own driveway. If the victim had been the typical citizen, unarmed walking out to their car, this could have been a murder trial. I just hope that the Armed Career Criminal Act does not allow early out for good behavior.
