WALHALLA, S.C. - An Oconee County man has been sentenced to 41 years in prison after being convicted of killing his 5-month-old daughter last year.

A jury in Walhalla deliberated an hour Thursday before returning a verdict of guilty of homicide by child abuse against 24-year-old Matthew Hinton.

Hinton testified Thursday that he didn't intentionally hurt Brianna Bright. Hinton said his daughter slipped from his arms after he bathed her in the shower of their home.

Hinton was charged after she died Aug. 20, 2009 in a Greenville hospital. He had taken her to Oconee Medical Center four days earlier, saying he had found she wasn't breathing.

Doctors say the girl had multiple bruises, a broken leg, and head injuries.

The girl's mother was at work at the time.

Five months or five years?

Five months or five years? Title says five months, then the articles says five years...just curious. It's a lot harder to break a five year old's leg than it is a five months old's leg...
