ATLANTA -- The Georgia House of Representatives passed a measure this morning encouraging the development of Savannah as a harbor for cruise ships.
Tourism is already a large industry in Savannah. Hosting cruise ships would bring more visitors, both those passing through on the ships from other ports and those who would travel to the city to start or end their voyage.
Rep. Ron Stephens, R-Savannah, introduced the resolution but could not be present today in the House. Reps. Bob Bryant, D-Garden City, and Ben Watson, R-Savannah, addressed their colleagues and explained the reason for the resolution.
