AP sources: Gingrich closer to presidential run

  • Follow Latest News

WASHINGTON — Republican officials say former House Speaker Newt Gingrich intends to take a formal step in the next two weeks toward a run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

He would be the first of many potential contenders to make the move to challenge President Barack Obama.

The former Georgia congressman has been travelling to key primary and caucus states in recent months in the run-up to a campaign for the White House.

The officials say an announcement is likely in the first half of March. It is not clear what type of declaration he intends to make. Some White House hopefuls set up exploratory committees, while others simply announce their candidacy.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to disclose Gingrich's plans.

I hope he does run. Maybe he

I hope he does run. Maybe he can get this spending under control and reduce the entitlements so people will have to go back to work. If the amount is reduced or cut off entirely then the receivers will have to go back to work and the illegals will not be needed. Yeah Newt.

Please Newt. Don't do it.

Please Newt. Don't do it. Don't run for President. Help a deserving (electable) Republican win the office. You have the warmth of Dick Cheney's shotgun and the general appeal of a....well...a....newt. The Republicans need to get behind a strong candidate and not bleed off votes to an also ran who has no chance of winning. The consequences are 4 more years of a weak Obama presidency in the time of a perilous, rapidly changing World.

No to Newt, too tired, too

No to Newt, too tired, too old-hat, way too much baggage.
We need a younger, fresher candidate who will at least have chance.

Newt is a smart man, I hope he is smart enough not to allow his ego to get in the way and gracefully walk away.

The forecast for any

The forecast for any Republican being elected president in 2012,is thin than a needle in a hay stack.I do not see the american people electing a Republican president because they claimed to want to cut federal deficit spending, just a big front,{but on the other hand}until Republicans stop blocking jobs creation, and undermine the economy recovery in order to make Pres. Obama a one-term president. It will be another six years before a Republican be seated at the White House as a president.

It's unfortunate that Newt is

It's unfortunate that Newt is known for his mis-steps rather than his extensive knowledge of history, economics, and world affairs.

From an ability standpoint, he is very qualified to be POTUS; in fact, more so than 99% of the others. But public perception will override his chances.

It's unfortunate that people's decisions are based on headlines and blurbs from the mass media. A few mis-steps in my late teens and early twenties keep me from considering a political foray, even though it was thirty years ago. Old skeletons will haunt for a lifetime.

40% on either side will vote the party line even if Charles Manson were running. Of the remaining 20%, precious few truly consider what's best for the country.

I don't know Woody. We could have gotten Bill Ayers himself rather than his protege. And because Biden is as un-Presidential as they come, I'm hoping the Sercret Service keeps doing their job.

Unbelievably, it could be worse.

That is about as funny as Joey Brush running for everything but dog catcher. You cheat on your family and think we will not forget. Why should we trust you? Newt stick to something where you will not have to pass a moral aptitude.

Too old-too tired & too much

Too old-too tired & too much baggage just like dani said---please guys can't we come up with some NEW names--new faces---Gov. Perry---Gov. Christie (even though he says he isn't ready & he isn't arrogant enough to think he is) surely we have MORE to choose from than Palin-Newt-Trump-Romney---Bring on some new blood.

WW1949 states: "the illegals

WW1949 states: "the illegals will not be needed."

As long as they are willing to work for less than minimum wages, illegals will always be allowed here.

GOPAC comes to mind when

GOPAC comes to mind when Newt's name is mentioned. The start of the politics of 'character assassination' and Lunt's focus group cabal. The republicans move to radicalize the 'vulgar'. Anytime you can get a man living on 15,000 a year to vote Republican, the propaganda machine that turns politics into religion is in full swing...

What about having someone

What about having someone like Bill Gates or Warrent Buffet run for pres. They obviously know how to take nothing and make something out of it. And I dont see too many things theyre working on going bankrupt. Fact is, if you dont have the money to pay for something you just cant have it. Plain and simple. Stop robbing one hand to pay the other. It will catch up with you. Obviously those 2 people wont run, but there has to be someone like them that will.

If we allow ourselves to fall

If we allow ourselves to fall into a trap for the second time set for us by the left wing and elect the candidate they hand-pick for us (SEE McCain 2008), we deserve another defeat. I hope conservatives are more observant this time and keep all eyes open and ears peeled.
You can bet the left-wing MSM is ready to pounce.

I think it would be hard for

I think it would be hard for him to win because of:
his recent conversion to Catholicism after his marriage to his third wife, with whom he was having a long-term affair while married to his second wife.

the same lack of 'real-world' experience people criticize President Obama for. Newt's been a college professor, historian, politician, political analyst, and 'think-tank' worker, but not a businessman or in some other profession. People seem to be looking for businessmen for candidates right now.

But politics is a strange game. You never know who's going to win.

There was a Gallup poll

There was a Gallup poll taken, and the results showed 52% would vote for Obama, 38% would vote for Palin.

The Republican party is moving on. Thank God sanity has come back to the Republican party.

The longer that time goes on, the lower her approval rating sinks.

I wasn't aware that Palin had

I wasn't aware that Palin had announced her candidacy. Hopefully, she as well as Newt, has more sense and stays out of the way of legitimate contenders..
One would think that the pollsters would have better things to do.

I would love to see Trump jump in, he wouldn't get the nomination but it would be great fun in the meantime.

It doesent matter who we put

It doesent matter who we put in the white house, this country is going down hill, and the one we have now is tryingto lead us to poverty and dispair. t wil take years to reverse what this fool has done and trying to do to the country. If we have to put up with him another four years ,then we call him Hitler.

Unpublished

At least Newt knows more about the history of these states then anything you have running Dem or Rep. He will at least be a president with balls enought to stand up to muslims and illegal aliens plus he is very good fiscally. If you are stupid enought to want the same as you have now dont vote for him and it will show who has the smarts and who does not.
