"Maybe" and "possibly" there's a "slight chance" that snow will be mixed into the chilly rain that falls tonight, cautious meteorologists say.

Rain will start falling in earnest after midnight, and as temperatures fall there could be some snow mixed in, said Shawn Smith, of the National Weather Service in West Columbia, S.C.

After the temperatures start rising Thursday morning, everything falling from the sky should be rain. Road temperatures aren't likely to drop below freezing, so commuters Thursday morning shouldn't be concerned about ice, Smith said.
