Fort offers scholarship essays

 The Fort Gordon Sergeants Major Association has begun their annual scholarship award essay competition.

The scholarship gives $500 to local high school seniors who are selected for having the best-written essays. Those wishing to enter can obtain a scholarship essay packet from Army Community Service in Darling Hall at Fort Gordon, according to a press release. Applicants should see Vanessa Stanley in room 224. An electronic copy can be found online at www.sergeantsmajor.com.

The scholarship is in honor sergeant majors who were killed in the terrorist attacks of 911 on the Pentagon, in the Iraq War, in Weisbaden, Germany, as well as all other deceased Sergeants Major.
