Weather curtails fisherman search

Rain and fog hampered today’s search for a 36-year-old fisherman who vanished Saturday at Thurmond Lake.

Scott Craig of North Augusta fishing from his 15-foot War Eagle boat, which was later found capsized. Officials fear he may have drowned.

Georgia authorities brought two sonar units to the reservoir Monday as the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources concentrated search efforts on the South Carolina side of the reservoir.

Since 2000, the Army Corps of Engineers has recorded 31 drownings at the 70,000-acre lake, including two in 2010.
