Members of the Merriwether PTO are asking for donations in support of the family of Kristen Dutton, the Merriwether Elementary School fourth-grader who died Saturday after being attacked by the family dog.

Checks can be made to the Merriwether Elementary School PTO and mailed or left at the school. The address is 565 Spring Haven Drive, North Augusta, SC 29860. Please write Kristen Dutton fund in the memo line. For more information, contact Sharron Swearingen at (803) 634-3586.

Kristen, 9, was walking the dog, a 98-pound Japanese Akita, alone Saturday when the attack happened, authorities said. She was bitten in the neck and later pronounced dead at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
