Horry County detective suspended after arrest

CONWAY, S.C. - Authorities say an Horry County police detective has been suspended without pay after his arrest for fighting with his girlfriend over their Super Bowl plans.

Investigators say 39-year-old John David Gonska's girlfriend had marks on her shoulder, neck, chin and a cut on her lip when they arrived Sunday night. Gonska was arrested on a criminal domestic violence charge.

Police say Gonska and his girlfriend started arguing as they watched a football game about what they were going to do on Super Bowl Sunday.

Horry County police say Gonska has worked for the force for six years.

Gonska was released from jail several hours after his arrest. A phone listing for him couldn't be found and it wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
