COLUMBIA — First Lady Michelle Obama will be in Columbia next week.
The White House said Friday that the first lady will spend Thursday at Fort Jackson and participate in a briefing about the lack of exercise and the consequences of obesity and poor nutrition during childhood.
Michelle Obama hasn't been in South Carolina since January 2008 just before the presidential primary. She also was here for a campaign stop with Oprah Winfrey in December 2007 that drew more than 30,000 people.
The White House said Michelle Obama also will tour the Army post. That includes a stop at Fort Jackson's "Go Green" food service program that encourages healthy eating.
