Richmond County sheriff's deputies and investigators are now searching an area around Wrightsboro Road and Heard Avenue after a vehicle was stolen with a 6-year-old girl inside.

Sgt. Dan Carrier said the car was stolen near the 2100 block of Walton Way, but the thief -- described only as a black male -- abandoned the vehicle after discovering there was a child inside.

The search has prompted several police roadblocks and some commuters might face delays.

I don't know that I could be

I don't know that I could be stopped from dealing directly with a person who did this to a member of my family, were they ever apprehended. This kind of thing will stop only when it starts costing the scum that do it their very lives. And I really hate it that it's come down to this.

I totally agree with

I totally agree with Fiat_Lux. As my great great grandfather used to say,"hang 'em high, hang 'em low, either way, they've got to go." and the sooner the better.

Thankful that the child was

Thankful that the child was not hurt or harmed. Cars can be replaced, humans can't.

I'm with you

I'm with you BombQDavis...story leaves a lot to wonder about! Very concerned as to why a 6 year old would be left unattended in a vehicle if it wasn't a car jacking. Thankful she has been located unharmed!

Council Members need to

Council Members need to remove the 5 furlough days which have cut over 20,000 man hours of policing this year compared to last and restore funding for the 38 deputies that RCSO is short compared to past history.

DA's need to stop with plea bargins on any/all violent crimes/criminals.

Judges need to get tough on violent crime/criminals to include but not limited to far higher bails and the toughest punishments available at their disposal.

Our legislators need to institute tougher mandatory punishments for all violent criminals and for certain convictions such as rape, murder, armed robbery, etc. the punishment needs to be life in prison without any chance of parole or the option of the death penalty should the convicted criminal wish to end his life and save the taxpayers money.

Parents need to be more cautious in the times we live in. Frankly, they should be ok to leave a child in a car for a minute while conducting a very short transaction. However, that is not the area or time that we currently live in and children should not be left in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings at all times, get a cwp and learn how to shoot if necessary and be prepared to do so. Only you can truely protect yourself all of the time.
