Aiken pedestrian struck, hospitalized

An Aiken man is in the hospital after being struck by two vehicles while walking down Highway 19, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.


The accident occurred when a 2003 Kia driven by Steven Turner, 48, of the 2400 block of Quail Court in Hephzibah, struck John Jackson while he was walking down Highway 19 about six miles south of Aiken.


Another vehicle, a 2006 Mercury Mariner driven by Raymond Emory, 63, of the 100 block of Burdin Drive in Easley, also struck Jackson, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.


Jackson was taken to a hospital for his injuries. The drivers were uninjured.  


The accident is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The article fails to mention

The article fails to mention that this happened at 4AM. What's anyone doing out walking at 4AM, let alone on a main highway?

Also, "Jackson was taken to a hospital for injured." Nice.

The other report also states Jackson was wearing dark clothes. I see they changed injured for injuries. They must not have had their morning coffee yet when they first posted the report.

We are constantly (and rightly so) reminded to wear seat belts. Why can't the law mention reflector strips or clothing for people walking on the road after dark?
