I agree. There's not question

I agree. There's not question this is coming and that it's going to be a big mess. Nobody with a brain wants to be driving around in it, and even those without one probably don't want someone taking their kids out on the road in it.

What will probably happen --

What will probably happen -- is there will be no snow or sleet in the early morning. Columbia and Richmond Co. schools will go in late. Then around noon (or later) freezing rain will descend on the Augusta area. Then the BOE’s will decide to close the schools. Buses will be slipping and sliding trying to get the children home as well as the parents that are trying to get to school to get their children. A few weeks ago -- back before Christmas a winter storm descended on Atlanta, GA during the rush hour. I was listening to 750 WSB on the internet – the Atlanta area had over 1000’s wrecks in a 3 hour period. People just left their cars on the interstates and got home the best way they could. At 11:00 PM one of the wrecker drives decided it was unsafe for him to be working and he just started giving people rides home. The Nation Weather Service says this is going to be bad – they could be wrong, but I think it is better to be safe than sorry.

I don't know where I would

I don't know where I would call to confirm that Aiken county schools are closed... Seems to me that the Chronicle should have reliable sources for this kind of thing.

Now, if the place I work would let us know....

I love the CC 2 hour delay,
Unpublished

I love the CC 2 hour delay, shows how slow their brain is responding, i have made the decision my kids will stay home rather than get on a bus and risk injuries! thanks Columbia County school board, way to go, BIG pat on the back, very nice, so thoughtful. As far as business's are concerned, if you are willing to risk people's life because of your greed, shame on you! And if you will be out joy riding in the mess then do NOT expect sympathy when you wreck your car and get hurt! For those that have chosen to stay indoors and enjoy the view, YOU are the smart ones!

Who wants to bet Fort Gordon

Who wants to bet Fort Gordon will be business as usual even if there is a foot of snow and six inches of ice on the ground?

Atlanta has a total jam on

Atlanta has a total jam on I-85 at GA 400 as the locals up that way decided to all go for a ride in the snow. It will be a nightmare up there. Just like last time, when the bad weather came, they all got in their cars and headed out for a drive. Are they nuts?

At the present time I am in

At the present time I am in Bainbridge, GA. The time is 10:30 PM on Jan. 9, 2011. The temperature is 32 deg. F and freezing rain is falling as I write this. I am in the south east corner of Georgia -- near the Florida/Alabama state lines.

You guys complaining about

You guys complaining about the delays instead of closings must have forgotten a few years back when they canceled class the night before and the next day it was 60 and sunny and school was out for nothing that is what the delays are about. Tomorrow morning if it is how it is now school will be canceled.

Why would they buy equipment

Why would they buy equipment to clear the streets? This happens like once a year and sometimes not at all. That would be a total waste of money eliza.

Does anyone know which Fort

Does anyone know which Fort Gordon private contracting companies are on delay (or have a work cancellation?) "All non-essential personnel" normally only applies to military or GS workers. I cannot check my Outlook Express account from home. Sure I could call and ask once my company starts work...but by then I would be obviously late. Any help on this would be great!

If the base is closed, you probably wont be working either I would imagine. Augusta Tech is on a 2 hr delay still although all the counties where they have campuses have closed school.

Yes, my son attends Augusta

Yes, my son attends Augusta Tech, but the "2 hr delay" is confusing. Since they have classes starting + stopping all throughout the day, does each class come in two hours later than normal? Or does this apply to the staff only? I'm not sure how this works.

@ annal they can invest in a couple of trucks of salt for each area. If you notice we are starting to have this issue a least twice a year. To me that will be a good investment.
