Man pulls gun in Wheeler road rage incident


A case of road rage caused one driver to pull a gun on another, according to an incident report.

A 68-year-old Appling man told authorities a fellow driver began cursing at him and accusing him of almost causing an accident on Wheeler Road around 11 a.m. Wednesday. The man pulled off at the Circle K at 3755 Wheeler Road with the angry driver trailing close behind, police said.

The Appling man told authorities he attempted to walk in the store but the other driver, estimated to be around 30 years old, walked over, kicked him in the groin and punched him in the throat.

In order to defend himself, the elderly driver grabbed a hammer, police said. In retaliation, the enraged driver pulled out a pistol before fleeing the scene.
