An inmate appears to have committed suicide at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Phinizy Road between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent in Charge Mike Ayers.

Ayers said the inmate, whose name was not released, committed suicide within a 10 to 15 minute window while deputies handed out prescription medications for the night. He couldn't go into specifics while the investigation is ongoing, but said the inmate hanged himself using items in his cell that were not contraband.

An autopsy and toxicology results will indicate for sure whether the inmate committed suicide, Ayers said.
