Academy of Richmond County wants the public to see the upgrades the building has gotten in recent months.

Alumni and friends of the school are invited to an open house at ARC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 29.

The open house will include a tour of the school and its new "IB Wing," which holds classrooms for International Baccalaureate, music and other courses.

"Bring your children and grandchildren and again walk the hallways and athletic fields of our historic school," says an announcement from Principal Tim Spivey. "Students from our fine arts department will provide entertainment for all."

Richmond Academy is at 910 Russell St.

The demand of parents to get

The demand of parents to get their child into the IB program at Richmond is crazy. I look for ARC to battle A.R Johnson and even Davidson in the near future. Cross Creek and Westside will have to step their game up to enter the top 3 high schools in RC.... Though Westside has the advantage of the spin off from Village at Riverwatch. And Cross Creek has the advantage of being close to Plant Vogtle... But then again Elderberry, Willhaven, and Granite Hill are zoned for Richmond. The area is growing so much a 25 acre shopping center is coming to Jimmie Dyess. It's going to be intresting competition in the future.

Well I don't know the

Well I don't know the specific test scores you're referring to. It might be SAT, ACT, etc... Westside probably does win in SAT scores for example. Actually in 2009-2010 school year Westside, ARC, and Cross Creek had around the same graduation rates(around 80%)..

Westside has the advantage over Richmond, being where it doesn't have neighborhoods like Harrisburg zoned for the school. While the side of Harrisburg facing the Hill is nice, the side facing 15th street needs alot of gentrification. Richmond is by far the most diverse school in the entire CSRA.. There are wealthy, rich, middle class, lower middle class, and poor kids at the school.

I must say that I have been

I must say that I have been extremely impressed with the changes that have taken place at ARC in the past couple of years. The I.B. program, changes in personnel, much better support from the BOE along with rezoning to aleviate the overcrowding are turning the school around. Again I can say that I am a very proud graduate of Richmond Academy!
