1 arrested, 1 sought in armed robbery

Police arrested a Martinez man and are searching for another in connection to a drug deal turned armed robbery Wednesday in the parking lot of a Martinez restaurant.

Devon John McRae, 18, of Wexford Drive, was charged with armed robbery this morning and is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.

A 27-year-old Martinez man called police claiming that he was robbed at gunpoint by McRae and Daiquan Lneil Johnson, 18, in the parking lot of Zaxby's at 510 Furys Ferry Road.

The man said he and a 15-year-old female friend were sitting in a car in the parking lot about 8 p.m. when McRae and Johnson got into the back seat. The men pulled a gun on the pair and demanded all of their money, according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report.

The man met with McRae and Johnson to conduct a drug transaction, sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.

After giving the robbers $279 in cash, the man said they left in a purple Plymouth Breeze. The man provided police with the tag number, which led to McRae.

McRae was arrested at his home early today. Police are looking for Johnson, of Shawns Way in Martinez, for questioning and possibly a third suspect, Morris said. Johnson also has an outstanding warrant for obstruction of a police officer.

The drug case is under investigation, Morris said. No charges have yet been filed.

He should have been arrested

He should have been arrested on the spot not only for attempting to buy drugs but a 27 year old man in a vehicle with a 15 year old girl. This was trouble from the jump.

Being kinda familiar with

Being kinda familiar with this particular area. When I first read the article, I thought the criminals would probably be from the Blue Ridge Drive, Old Petersburg road, Old Evans road area... Actually they live off Columbia and Furys Ferry roads...

This is not your prototypical bad neck of the woods. It just proves that Criminal Activity can happen anywhere at anytime.

I agree easy breezy. Why

I agree easy breezy. Why wasn't this 27 year old arrested for contributing to the deliquency of a minor! Buying drugs with a 15 year old is reason to raise more than a few eye brows. How about the BOLD 27 year old, "I was buying drugs and got Robbed". Why wasn't the 27 year old named? Why are the police protecting a criminal/victim?

Even someone who sells pot

Even someone who sells pot does not deserve to be robbed at gun point. Kuddos to King, the 27 year old, for having the guts to stand up to these thugs. And by the way, Devin Mcrae is one of the individulas who stole the flat screen Tv's from Lakeside and Greenbrier last Febrary, probably still on probation.
