A fire that heavily damaged a Sand Bar Ferry Road industrial building closed the road near Interstate 520 and sent smoke into the sky across Augusta today.

Fire Department Capt. Kenneth Roberts said the building at the corner of Sand Bar Ferry and Columbia Nitrogen Road was 50 percent involved when firefighters answered the call after noon.

Other smoke seen in the skies over Augusta today came from the controlled burn of 75 acres on Bennock Mill Road, dispatchers said.
