A federal judge has set the trial date for a Keysville man caught stealing military equipment from Fort Gordon in June.

Jury selection and the trial for Anthony Todd Saxon, 35, will begin on Jan. 10, according to documents filed in the U.S. District Court in Augusta this week.

Saxon faces seven counts, ranging from impersonating a soldier to possession of explosives by a convicted felon stemming from the June 15 theft of an infrared aiming laser from Fort Gordon and the theft of a firearm from Blankenship CustomFirearms in Grovetown between November 2009 and January.

If found guilty on each count and given the maximum sentence, Saxon could spend more than 50 years in a federal prison.

During his last court appearance in November, a U.S. Magistrate denied Saxon’s release on bond citing concerns over where Saxon was planning on going when he was to be “deployed” to Iraq or Afghanistan on June 17.

Saxon had been telling his family that he was in the military and was preparing to be shipped overseas when he was arrested.

Saxon had served in the National Guard but was discharged in 1995 for medical reasons.
