That is such a bad

That is such a bad intersection. How long will it take to get a traffic light and a turn lane installed there?

As a resident of Blanchard

As a resident of Blanchard Rd, we avoid that intersection as much as possible. Even the school bus U-turns at the Circle K, instead of trying to turning left off Blanchard. It's terrible folks have to get hurt in order for officials to do the right thing.

As soon as a commissioners

As soon as a commissioners family member is injured or killed. Then it will need a traffic light as soon as it can be installed.

If I am not mistaken,

If I am not mistaken, Blanchard Rd. forms a "T" with Washington Rd., thus it is improper to call that an intersection. From my dictionary I read:

in-ter-sect' – to meet and cross each other

in-ter-sec'tion – the place where two streets cross

I am not in favor of placing another traffic light on Washington Rd. at Blanchard Rd. There are too many lights on Washington Rd. already.

Kamaka brings up a good

Kamaka brings up a good point. Instead of putting up a traffic light, they should put a sign on Blanchard Rd. saying, “No Left Turn” onto Washington Rd. That would cut down on accidents there.

Don't forget that Augustans (including Columbia Countians) are notorious for running red lights!

There appears to be no professional road planning from west of Martinez to Pollard's Corner. The nearly 25 miles of roads and intersections are mostly unsafe and a complete embarrassment to professional road planners. G-DOT and Columbia County government officials should hang their heads in shame.

Another solution at the

Another solution at the connection of Blanchard Rd. & Washington Rd. would be to install a traffic circle or roundabout. Please don't install a traffic light there.

you have got to be

you have got to be kidding.... a traffic circle on a 5 lane road with a speed limit of 55 - the no left turn is the best option. I never go down Blanchard if I am planning on going west on Washington - I always go down to the light to turn left on Washington. I hope none were seriously injured and recover quickly

A traffic light would be OK

A traffic light would be OK if the CC engineers could time them to encourage adherence to the 45 mph posted speed limit on Washington Road until you get past William Few Parkway.

It's obvious Little Lamb

It's obvious Little Lamb doesn't have to deal with Blanchard Road on a daily basis. From seeing the accident today, it looks like it didn't have anything to do with a left hand turn onto or off of Blanchard Road. I'm all for a traffic light or turn lane at Blanchard Road.

Agreed Crackerjack. There's

Agreed Crackerjack. There's a population of Greenbrier folks on the Washington Rd end of Blanchard that need to turn left from Blanchard many times a day. I'm quite sure the residents of Woodbridge and Circle K employees would like to see less of us using their driveways as a turn around.

What did it have to do with? Did two people on Washington have a head-on? Did someone turning right from Blanchard pull out and get hit from behind? Did someone turning right from Washington onto Blanchard take too much time and get hit from behind? Was it an improper lane change on Washington Rd.? Please enlighten us from what you saw, emandme.

Batman is correct:

I might add that there also appears to be no professional road planning from east of Martinez to Downtown Augusta.

Really Come on Ya'll Somebody

Really Come on Ya'll Somebody lost their life in that accident. It was a bad wreck and I have to agree with emandme. My Prayers to the Family!
As a traveler of washington road, it scares me comming past there, I have almost hit a few people from them pulling out in front of me and the killer sun in the morning and at night blinding you doesn't help. I'm all for the light. I dont want to die there.
Columbia County should be making more money from the dumb butts that Speed down throught that area anyway. "Hint Hint to the sheriffs dept" How many more people have to die? I'm willing to sign the Pettion.
I'm just sayin

They definitely need a

They definitely need a traffic light at this junction. I know it's a pain for those on Washington Road, but folks turning left off of Blanchard are in danger, and present a traffic hazard as well. Maybe a bigger problem are the folks turning left onto Blanchard from Washington. They stop traffic in the fast lane on Washington Road, and there's a mass change to the right as impatient drivers risk life and limb just so they won't have to stop for a few moments. Those folks present a very dangerous traffic problem, which would be alleviated with a turn lane and light there.

There is the big Blanchard Park there will all those soccer fields and cross-country track. Traffic in and out of there can get pretty backed up.

But, it took years and years to get the much-needed traffic light on Halali Farm Road at Washington Road. The county sure takes its time in doing these things. I just hope no one else is injured or killed at Blanchard Road before the county finally agrees to address this situation and add a light there as well.

A TURN LANE will solve the

A TURN LANE will solve the problem. I don't see why a turn lane was not added when the road was widened. Washington Road's turn lane functions ok to good. Why does Gdot move away from something that works? (example. fury's ferry rd.)

At 12:54 emandme said that the accident did not appear to be the result of any left turn activity or attempt. Now Jeffro says a left turn lane will solve the problem. There is a contradiction here.

Every subdivision on

Every subdivision on Washington road wants a light at its entrance. People who use every connecting road, such as Gibbs, Halali Farm and Blanchard, want a light. Everybody cannot have what they want or you get a big mess.

I hate the Blanchard

I hate the Blanchard Road/Washington Road junction. Now that the "progress" continues down Washington Road, what other Junctions will become dangerous. How many wrecks happened from Belair Rd. to Gibbs Rd. before turn lanes were installed? what was the effect of these lanes? You get my point. It used to take me 18 mins. to get to the lakehouse. now it's 35 mins. keep on adding lights and I bet we'll push an Hour. Smart planning is what is needed. Turn Lanes work.

Little Lamb: Are you bananas?

Little Lamb:

Are you bananas? A traffic circle (or so-called round-about) on a street with a 55 mile an hour speed limit. And lowering the speed limit, can you imigine a traffic jam that would stretch all the way back to Martinez? C'mon girl, get a clue !

EVANS, Ga -- One person has died after a three-car wreck that diverted traffic around Washington Road Saturday morning.

Phylis Autry, 54, died from the accident, Capt. Steve Morris with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office told News 12.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. at the intersection of Blanchard and Washington Roads in Evans and emergency vehicles blocked the area for more than an hour, Columbia County EMA director Pam Tucker said in an e-mail.

The intersection does not have a traffic light and many in the area have lobbied to have one installed.

My prayers and blessings are with all families... God bless

The Chronicle story was

The Chronicle story was posted at 11:13 this morning, and I was wondering why there were no updates. Now Channel 12 comes to the rescue.

Still, the Channel 12 report gives nothing about how the accident happened - - - left turn error, right turn error, lane change error - - - who can say?

I hope that Channel 12 and the Chronicle will correct their stories to call the accident site a junction and not an intersection. Accuracy and precision are important.

The accident was not at the

The accident was not at the intersection or junction of Blanchard and Washington Roads. It was NEAR the intersection. It was between Blanchard Road and Hardwood Floors and More.

My sympathy to the family of the victim who lost their life there this morning. I pray that no other person or persons will have to lose their life to get this problem solved.

I completely agree we need

I completely agree we need turn lanes down through Washington Rd. The new light combined with the newly built Blanchard Woods Soccer Park has created mass hazards in this area. The new light causes it to be nearly impossible to pull out of the Silver Lake neighborhood because people are stopped in front of the neighborhood and when the light turns green they are coming from the other way and there is a hill. The entire Blanchard Woods intersection(where 2 roads meet) in combination with Silver Lake and Halili Farm Rd is chaos in the evenings when the people from the Greenbrier area are trying to go home from soccer practice and games, not to mention regular evening traffic. The problem goes back a long time when commissioners allowed the massive amount of building and expansion to go on without widening the road, and without forethought about the traffic patterns that would come with that expansion. The road goes from 2 lanes to 1 lane headed west and 1 to 2 headed east in this short section of road with 3 roads coming onto Washington within a few hundred feet. If we're spending government money on road projects we need to get some of it spent here to fix this mess before some else dies. Remember how quickly the sidewalk was built on Mullikin road after someone died? Still no sidewalks on Cox/Gibbs despite hundreds of kids walking along those roads to and from school daily. Does it always take a loss of life to fix an obvious problem? Unfortunately in this county yes it does, thay are reactive and not proactive.

I use the light at Halali Farm Rd and Washington Rd. to exit Silver Lake. To use the Silver Lake exit is taking an extreme risk.

Thank you, thank you, thank

Thank you, thank you, thank you, emandme, for your eyewitness account that exonerates the Washington Rd./Blanchard Rd. junction. The lack of a traffic light at that junction obviously was not a factor in the accident that occurred somewhere other than that junction.

I hope, I hope, I hope that the Chronicle and Channel 12 will correct future publications and broadcasts on this story.
