Officers were called to the 2100 block of Moncrieff Street at 2:16 a.m. in reference to the two subjects removing property from the residence.

During the investigation, one of the subjects entered the unattended, unsecured patrol car and took off, according to Investigator Aaron Hannsz. The car was recovered with moderate damage about one mile away on the 3600 block of Peach Orchard Road.

Hannsz said he is unsure how long the vehicle had been missing before it was recovered.

Kenyatta Sturgis, 25, and Jasper Newton, 31, have been charged with the burglary of the residence.

No one has been charged with the taking of the patrol car, but, Walden said, Newton is the primary suspect.

I feel sorry for that deputy.

I feel sorry for that deputy. He will undoubtedly be seeing a little unpaid vacation for violating department SOP. Every officer knows; never leave your patrol vehicle unsecured; if you do leave it running, it better be because you had two keys, and one was in your pocket while the other one was in the ignition, but even that would be taking a risk, and would still violate department SOP.

For officers who would like a safe way to leave your patrol car running without the risk of the vehicle being taken, I would suggest the following item: http://www.tremcopoliceproducts.com/prod.html

This product is a great way of allowing officers to safely leave their vehicles running.

the dash cam was stolen from the car

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office has located one of its own patrol cars after it's reported stolen during a call overnight.

We're told the patrol car was found about a mile away from the incident behind a warehouse on the 3700 block of Peach Orchard Road.

Deputies say the dash cam was stolen from the car. Investigators are currently talking with people from the scene, hoping to identify a suspect.

Sources say a deputy was at a call on Moncrieff Street around 2:15 this morning when the patrol car was stolen. That's off Boykin Road in south Richmond County.

I wish they would increase

I wish they would increase the punishment for stealing! How about cutting off the finger for the first offense, second offense the arm. I understand thats what some countries do. I don't have any mercy for the thief. At least you could recognize who's a thief.
