Morning sun blamed for accident on St. Sebastian Way

A car headed south on Jones Street this morning collided with an SUV after its driver lost his vision in the sunlight, Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. Robbie Silas said.

A 1999 Toyota Celica operated by James McMorrow was headed east on Jones Street about 8 a.m. when he failed to see the red light and struck a 2001 GMC Yukon’s passenger side, causing it to overturn, Silas said.

The Yukon was on St. Sebastian Way heading south and was driven by Tabitha Kendrick. Both of the cars were totaled, and Kendrick suffered some scratches and bruises, Silas said.

He added McMorrow had admitted fault in the accident and was charged with disregarding a traffic control device.
