An Augusta man told police he was shot Wednesday evening while being robbed, according to an incident report.

The 30-year-old victim told officers he was walking to his car in Dogwood Terrace on the 2000 block of Second Avenue around 9:30 p.m. when a man approached him and put a gun to his lower back. The gunman instructed the victim to empty his pockets and then proceeded to reach into the victim’s pockets, police said.

The victim took the opportunity to try to seize the handgun but failed. The gunman then struck him across the face and shot him once in the upper left thigh before fleeing, police said.
