Tests are still pending in connection with the death of a 3-year-old child who died with a prescription painkiller in his system, Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. James Kelly said today.

The victim was unresponsive on Sunday when his mother, Alana Johnson, brought him to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, according to a report. Drug tests showed that the child had prescription methadone in his system; Johnson couldn’t explain how her child ingested the narcotic, a report states.

Johnson, 45, of the 4600 block of Mike Padgett Highway, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of cruelty to children in the second degree. Kelly said the investigation is still ongoing, both by the sheriff’s office and the district attorney.

is really the right thing to

is really the right thing to do arrest the mother? it appears that the cops don't know anything yet. Give the grieving mother a break. Don't you think she is suffering enough. If they prove she is guilty then proceed with the arrest. There may be more to the story that I don't know but the story and how it is written indicates that the arrest is unjustified.
