Last month Aiken County Sheriff Mike Hunt asked county council members to re-evaluate a policy that allowed the Palmetto Tavern on Whiskey Road to remain open past 2 a.m. and patrons to bring their own alcohol. The county revised its policy on estabilishments closing by 2 a.m. in March 2009, but the language did not cover businesses where patrons brought alcohol for on-site consuption, according to County Administrator Clay Killian.
Prior to the 2009 ordinance, bars outside city limits did not have mandated operating hours. Hunt also requested those changes to bring the county's policies in line with the cities of Aiken and North Augusta.
Aiken County Council will meet at 7 p.m. in chambers located at 736 Richland Ave.
