Pilot hurt in small plane crash in Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Authorities say a man suffered life-threatening injuries when the small plane he was flying crashed in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett County fire department spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly says emergency workers responded to reports of a small plane crash around 2:10 p.m. Saturday.

Eberly says witnesses said the plane took off from Gwinnett County Airport and then turned sharply to the left before crashing into a roadway. It then slid through a fence and came to rest in the parking lot of a nearby business.

The pilot, who hadn't been identified, was alone in the single-engine plane. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center.

Eberly says there were no passengers on the plane and no one on the ground was injured.
