BRUNSWICK, Ga. - A rescue helicopter crew from the U.S. Coast Guard's Savannah Air Station rescued two people and a dog Friday night from a vessel that was sinking in Altamaha Sound, the Coast Guard said.

The crew pulled Gary Jones, Celest Johnson and their dog, all from Jacksonville, from aboard the Leo, a 65-foot shrimp boat that had run aground and was taking on water, the Coast Guard said.

Notified by good Samaritans about 8:30 p.m. of the boat in distress, the Coast Guard dispatched a small boat rescue crew from its Brunswick station and the helicopter.

The helicopter arrived on-scene at 9:37 p.m. and its crew hoisted Jones, Johnson and the dog into the helicopter and flew them to the air station. All were reported in good condition.

Jones said his net had become entangled in boat's propeller and when he deployed the anchor it caused the shrimp boat to run aground near the jetties, the Coast Guard said.
