Macon police recruit accidentally shot

MACON, Ga. — Police in Macon say a recruit is in stable condition after accidentally shooting herself in the leg at the police firearms range.

Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says the recruit, Tomika Jackson, was struck in the right leg by a bullet Thursday morning when her gun fired while she was holstering the weapon.

The Telegraph newspaper reports that police say Jackson was admitted to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with what they describe as a non-life threatening injury. Police say the shooting is being reviewed under department policy.
