RINCON, Ga. - Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating an accident involving an Effingham County sheriff's deputy that sent three people, including the deputy to area hospitals.

Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor said the accident happened about 5:15 p.m. Thursday as a patrol deputy traveling southbound on Georigia Highway 21  was hit head-on by a northbound vehicle on the same road.

"The northbound vehicle crossed the median and hit our deputy, who was transporting a prisoner," Ehsanipoor said. "All three were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening."

Ehsanipoor said dispatch had received notification just prior to the accident of a reckless driver in the immediate vicinity.
