SC town seeks illegal immigrant housing ban

Proposed ordinance goes before the Summerville town council today.

SUMMERVILLE, S.C.  - A town near the South Carolina coast is taking up a proposal that would prevent illegal immigrants from living in the community.

The proposed ordinance goes before the Summerville town council today.

Councilman Walter Bailey says the ordinance would prevent illegal immigrants from living in the town of 45,000 and in most cases keep them from working there.

Bailey is a former state prosecutor and says the idea was prompted in part by the Obama administration's challenge of the new Arizona immigration law.

A federal judge has blocked key aspects of that law but Bailey says his Summerville ordinance is different enough to where he doesn't think the judge's ruling applies.

This is the approach that is popping up all over the country at the county and city level, as well as the state level. The obama will spend billions allowing the illegal immigration, but the citizens of this country will fight him at every opportunity.

We have a prison full of untried terrorists at Gitmo and our government spends time and money prosecuting Arizona for its stand on illegals. Doesn't make sense.

I cannot understand, why some

I cannot understand, why some people do not want the immigrants here.Who do they think, is going to do all that they do?? When was the last time one of you worked the fields? That job went to them when african americans, decided that they were not going to do it!!!!!!! A certain race of people have never known what it was like to work the fields, because they felt that, that type of work was beneath them. They work the reasturants, they clean the hotels, etc. They do all the work, that some of you did not allow your children to do. So who do you think is going to do it???? When you go in a supermarket the next time, or in a hotel, think about who put the clean sheets on your bed, or who picked the food that is on your plate!!!!!! Until you people decide that you or your children are going to do what they do, then just deal with it!!!!!!!!!!!

41, why can't you understand?

41, why can't you understand? It's not that we don't want them here. They just need to be here legally, paying their fair share. We don't like the fact that they are taking jobs that lazy Americans, receiving their government checks, should be up, out and doing.

1941-It's not about

1941-It's not about "immigrants"! It never was about legal immigrants. The issue is about illegal (alien) immigrants, who should be aka. invaders. You know, the people who are so poor and under educated that they think it's OK to pay someone big bucks to smuggle them into our country, steal someone's Social Security number, work under the table so as not to pay taxes, sap social services because their income is below the poverty line. It's those so called immigrants that everyone is against. They are illegal from the time they cross into our country until the time they are escorted back across the border.

Isn't this a bit redundant?

Isn't this a bit redundant? Do towns also have ordinances against murder and kidnapping and the sort? Is Summerville gonna start a shuttle service to the border? No they are going to turn these people over ICE just like they have been.

1941, they are doing

1941, they are doing construction trades, also. There are enough "Americans" to do these jobs. But they will not do them for $8 an hour. These illegals get a 1099 form, don't pay any taxes, go to the emergency room, we pay for that, go to public schools, we pay that, hit you with an insured car, we pay that. Also, there is a big difference between legal migrant field worker, and illegal hispanic squatters. Some time I wonder if the people who are so quick to defend these criminals, also are profitting from them being here.

It's free market capitalism

It's free market capitalism at its finest. Builders hire them because they are cheaper. Hotels hire them because they are cheaper. It's the American way, it's the Wal-Mart way. Only way to stop it is with-- gasp!-- government regulation! Since Reagan, we don't believe in regulating businesses, and we certainly don't regulate the industries that hire illegal workers. We could if we wanted to, but we don't. Big business and big money owns this country and ALL our politicians, and big business does not like to be regulated in any way. The right-wing has always strongly supported their right to work under the radar. They will hire whoever is cheapest-- do you blame them?

Driver8 - the way to stop it

Driver8 - the way to stop it is not government regulation but the eradication of entitlements. Without the entitlements we naturally won't get as many illegals but mainly it will force the unskilled America welfare crowd to go out and actually work these unskilled jobs thus leaving no demand for this illegal labor. The welfare crowd would either have to actually work or shrivel up and die because the welfare and unemployment and SSI and disability and Section 8 and EBT and Medicaid, etc that soley supports millions won't be there for them. That is how you curb illegal immigration. It is all about supply and demand. Now if the welfare crowd refuses and dies off then the number of illegals in America won't change but the burden of millions of taxsucking parasites will no longer be on the taxpayer. A big fence, a bigger moat, and high powerd rifles mounted high up on poles and controlled by motion and heat sensors will also curb the flow of illegals by actually doing what should have been done decades ago.....protecting the sovreignty of America's borders.

You are misinformed or just plain ignorant. A very large number of our citizen both black and white worked in fields from sunup to sundown. I know I was one of them. I worked next to black and white people in the fields, picking cotton, pulling corn, loading watermelons & etc. 1941, you can TAKE YOUR RACIST BS and shove it where the sun don’t shine. This country was built by both blacks and whites farming which meant working in the fields.
This is the kind of BS THAT IS TAUGHT today to young people that don’t know any better.

chacush - I'm with you on

chacush - I'm with you on this one. Whites have been working fields in this country since the beginning. Not every farm was a plantation, and many plantations had white sharecroppers, which was actually little more (and in some instances worse off) than slavery. Family owned farms of ALL races have provided the food of this nation until recent times when large corporations began taking over the food production industry. People of ALL races and religions have worked hard to build this nation.
What 1941 states is not being taught in the schools, he thought that one up on his own.

Thanks, but this is a very good example of what has been taught for some time and is still being taught today. As long as lies like these are being taught their will be no racial harmony.

chascush and momster, I agree

chascush and momster, I agree with both of you my Grandmother and Grandfather were sharecroppers in South Carolina and NE Georgia in the early 1900s. People like this 1941, are bigotted racists that need to be taught the real history of this nation, and not some lies and racist dribble these socialist leftwing professors and government funded so-called Public School educators are brainwashing our children with, being a captive audience.

I grew northern Maine in the '60's. We dug potatoes every fall; it's stoop labour- bending over all day, cold- wet shoes, wet hands, aching back from can-see to can't see. Praying it doesn't rain, because then there's no stopping; you have to keep going, pick up the potato, knock the mud off, into the drag until the crop is in. Left on the ground once they've been unearthed, potatoes go sour with mould. So you keep going.

Working along side us were the Canadians; several weeks later when their crop came in, we went to Canada and did it all over again. That's us, 1941, rich white lazy anglo's. Wotta maroon.

Baron :- It is not about

Baron :- It is not about turning these people over to ICE, that is an effort in futility and everone knows it. When illegals cannot get hired in a community, they move on. When they cannot rent housing in a community, they move on. Thousands left Arizona before the new law was supposed to go into effect, probably moved to Ga and SC.
You are correct that the entitlements should also be phased out, as the illegals are denied employment more jobs will become available for those who want to work.
As to those who refuse to work, then 2 Thessalonians 3:10 sums it up quite nicely " If a man should not work, then neither shall he eat."
