Soldiers threw grenade simulators at crowd

DAWSONVILLE, Ga.  — Three soldiers based at Camp Merrill in north Georgia are facing charges of aggravated assault after grenade simulators were tossed at a crowd in Dawson County.

Dawson County deputies say the devices were tossed out of a car early Sunday at a group of 16 people, including two children, and one explosive went off.

Authorities say no one was injured.

Investigators say the men tossed at least 11 more devices into a ditch along Georgia 400 as they tried to get away.

Drop these enlisted into

Drop these enlisted into heavy Taliban with all the grenades they can tote. We'll see if they learned anything from all this "practice" or their beheadings.

Flipa, though I don't think

Flipa, though I don't think an officer would have done something this crazy, the article doesn't say they were enlisted.

KingJames, the article says

KingJames, the article says that they were 3 SOLDIERS, you kind of have to be enlisted to be a soldier, plus flipa didn't say anything about them being officers...next time, read a little closer before commenting or correcting someone.

Merriam Online Dictionary

Merriam Online Dictionary defines soldier as one engaged in military service and especially in the army. So, is it the consensus that only enlisted persons are engaged in military service?

Well, the dictionary defines

Well, the dictionary defines 'enlist' as 'enrolling, usually voluntarily, for military service'. So yes planet, an enlisted person is engaged in military service, therefore, a soldier (by default) is also an enlisted individual.

Thanks Tumble, I was just getting ready to "pounce." To my knowledge, only the Navy is not referred to as Soldiers.

To answer sueboo's question

To answer sueboo's question there are two ranking systems in the army, the enlisted core and the officer core. The enlisted core are like the blue collar workers of the army and their ranks start at private, specialist, sergeant, master sergeant, etc. The officer core must be college educated in today's military and are like the white collar class and their ranks start as lieutenant, captain, major, colonel and general. Every base has both officers and enlisted personnel, but enlisted far outnumber officers.
