Driver strikes girl, dog walking on roadside

  • Follow Crime & courts

A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized after she and her dog were struck by a car Tuesday evening.

The girl and a friend were walking the dog along the shoulder of Clark Road just after 8 p.m. when a car traveling west left the road , striking her and the dog.

The victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance with injuries that weren't life-threatening, said Richmond County sheriff's Lt. Scott Gay.

She was recuperating Wednesday, but the dog did not survive.

The girls were walking at a safe distance on the shoulder but were walking the wrong direction, with their backs to traffic, Cpl. Bill Adams said.

The vehicle is described as a newer model dark blue Ford Mustang with a white stripe. A witness described the driver as a white male in his late teens to early 20s.

Authorities ask anyone with information on the vehicle to contact Adams at (706) 821-1256.

I'm glad the girl will be

I'm glad the girl will be okay. I'm sorry that she lost her dog. Sounds like a good description of the car and driver. Why run if you don't have anything to hide?

Very glad she wasn't

Very glad she wasn't seriously hurt, and condolences on the loss of her pet. Maybe her family can be awarded this jerk's car as settlement for what he caused.

Jail time for running. Big jail time, with the big boys.

I just called last week to

I just called last week to report an erratic/drunk driver at 5:30 pm driving for miles on the wrong side of Clark Rd. I know we are out in the sticks but we do need patrols on this rd. Not to mention Tracy Dr on up the rd with druggies moving in at the end of the street attempting to hit kids walking. Attempting on purpose!

I used to live on Clark Road.

I used to live on Clark Road. It's dangerous with a fairly sharp curve about midway down. I've had my fence damaged numerous times from cars going too fast and winding up in or through my fence. Mailbox taken out several times too by speeding vehicles. Lots of animals killed on that road too, but do you see Richmond Co. law enforcement on that road monitering traffic? Not that I can remember. Glad the young lady will be OK. Sorry about her dog.

Hello all.....I live on Tracy

Hello all.....I live on Tracy Drive and I haven't seen any druggies, however I have seen alot of people (young people) walking in the road. Even on Clark Road....which I can't blame them for walking in the middle on Clark road....because the grass is so high. Someone from Richmond County (whatever department that cuts grass) needs to get out there and cut it. Please. I saw a man walking in the road yesterday. And I've always wonder why the speed limit on Clark Road was set to 55. Maybe since it's becoming more populated, why don't they think about changing the speed limit to 45. But that probably would not help. People are going to drive anyway and whatever speed they want too. Some people just don't care.

Unfortunately I'm not at home

Unfortunately I'm not at home that much but I have noticed the truck you are talking about. In fact I called Richmond County on them because they were parked in front of my house one morning. Can you tell me which house you are referring too. I live somewhat in the middle of Tracy Drive. And would love to know so that I can let my girls know to keep an eye out on the place.

End of the Road on the left

End of the Road on the left (the ones that got shot at a few months ago). They are very bad news. It's a shame we have been there over 30 years and have never had problems until a few years ago.

smec29 - I've been there for about 6 years now. Not much of a social person so I don't get out and meet my neighbors but maybe I should. Maybe start up a neighborhood watch. Let me know what you think.

I moved out here because of

I moved out here because of the peace and quiet. No subdivision living and look what one gets.Meth labs, drunk drivers, neighbors kids stealing, breaking into peoples houses.I walked my dog down Hephzibah Mc Bean Rd and nearly got hit.People speeding round the curves getting closer to it when they see you walking.I tried to ride my horse down one day and a big Ford truck got close to me and sped up right beside me and when he got excactly beside me he honked the d... horn.Like these idiots are actually out trying to get people killed.Hephzibah Mc Bean Rd and Clark Rd are dangerous, there is no walking the dog or riding a horse.Instead of sitting on fleamarket Parkinglots why does the law not sit in this area.I would volunteer my driveway for that.

And here is some advice.If

And here is some advice. If you ever call the cops for something,DEMAND a case #.We have had it that the cops said there is nothing they can do,not so.EVERY TIME you call the law for disturbences, they have to file a report,no matter if it involves kids or adult ,if you demand it.We have had problems with kids breaking into the houses here and stealing and shooting a dog with a beebee gun.Sometimes they just don't want to do the paperwork. So DEMAND a policereport( Case #)
