ATHENS, Ga. -- A gunman pistol-whipped a man outside his home early Thursday while the robber's accomplices searched the man's pockets and made off with $2,000 he said he'd just won playing the Georgia Lottery.

The 45-year-old victim told Athens-Clarke County police he had just won the money playing the lottery, and was unaware of anyone who knew he had the money on him.

He got out of his car in front of his home about 1 a.m. and three men approached, one armed with a gun, police said.

The men told the victim to "give it up," and as he raised his hands in the air, the suspects found the money and ran off , police said.
