Standoff in west Augusta ends peacefully

The Richmond County sheriff's SWAT team was called to a home on Sanibel Drive today after a man barricaded himself inside.

A Richmond County sheriff's SWAT team was dispatched this afternoon to a home on Sanibel Drive in west Augusta.

 

According to witnesses, an armed man barricaded himself in the house at 6037 Sanibel. Richmond County property tax records show that the house is owned by Ronnie Greene, who bought it in 2008.

Investigator William Leisey said Greene was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Neighbors said that the incident began as a domestic dispute. The man's wife had left the home before the SWAT team arrived, they said.

The standoff, which began early this afternoon., ended about 7:30 p.m., according to a sheriff's dispatch supervisor.
