Doughnut shop ransacked in break-in

A burglar climbed in and out through the drive-through window of Dunkin Donuts, 3024 Washington Road, while an employee was in the back of the store making a cake Saturday morning, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report.

The night auditor at the La Quinta Inn told authorities that about 4 a.m. he saw a man go in and out, drive around the parking lot and then enter the motel lobby, where the night auditor tried to delay him by knocking him down.

The front of the doughnut shop was ransacked, and, based on the motel employee's description, the store owner believed the man, who escaped in a green Oldsmobile Alero, might have been a disgruntled former employee.
