Teen shot this morning at grad party

Police are looking for a man they say fired several shots, striking an Augusta teen at a high school graduation party in Martinez early this morning.

A 19-year-old was shot in the leg in the parking lot of Crawford Cabinets, 3831 Oak Drive, where a large Academy of Richmond County graduation party was being held, according to Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.

The teen said she was in the parking lot at about 12:30 a.m., when she saw a fight between several young men. She told police she ran to her car when she heard gunshots. As she fled, the teen was shot in the leg, according to a sheriff's office incident report.

When police arrived regarding calls about gunshots fired in the parking lot, they were unable to find the shooter or the teen victim. The teen had driven herself and a friend to University Hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, the teen told police she did not know who shot her.

A 54-year-old witness told police he saw a black man about 19-years-old fire a pistol four or five time in the parking lot. The shooter then ran away, according to the witness.

Anyone with information about the identity of whereabouts of the shooter should call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office at (706) 541-1044.
