Arrests curtail drug operation, police say

A 5-month drug investigation resulted in five arrests this week and the seizure of 8 pounds of marijuana.

The arrests  knocked out the top tier of a "major" marijuana distribution chain in Augusta, said sheriff's Lt. Robert Partain, with the arrests of minor dealers within the organization expected in the near future.

The investigation into the alleged ringleader, Early Glenn III, 31, started in January and culminated with narcotics investigators serving five search warrants Tuesday. Partain said investigators collected 8 lbs of mid- to high-grade pot, along with handguns, a rifle, $25,000 in cash and five vehicles, including a Chevy Suburban and two Cadillacs.

The pot, which has a street value of $30,000, likely came from a source in Atlanta, Partain said.

Arrested in connection with the group are Glenn, Gary Lawrence, 42, Ronald Holiday, 28, and Michael Samuel, 28.
