Security camera image of a theft suspect sought in Columbia County for threatening a store employee at Kohl's in Evans.

A loss prevention employee at Kohl's, 4227 Washington Road in Mullins Crossing, told police that a man he caught confronted for shoplifting threatened to pull a gun.

The employee said at about 8:20 p.m. on May 6, he saw the man take nine shirts, worth nearly $400, to the store dressing room, according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report. The man came out of the dressing room without the shirts, which the employee said were obviously stuffed down the man's pants because his pants were "bulging."

When the employee attempted to stop the man in the parking lot, he ran away. When the employee gave chase, he said the man yelled, "You better back off, I have a gun with me," the report stated. The employee stopped chasing the man and called police.

The employee described the shoplifter as a black man, 34-39 years old, about 6-fee-tall and 250-280 pounds. He was wearing a black "Coogi" T-shirt, black jeans with back pockets designs, black shoes and a Cincinnati Reds baseball cap. He left in a dark blue, four-door Ford Crown Victoria.

Kohl's should hand out tasers

Kohl's should hand out tasers to all loss prevention employees. Let 'em have a little fun for Pete's sake.

I saw another news report

I saw another news report that said he took the shirts and a VHS tape! He must have wanted to go old school with that tape.
